- Chosen by Voters Sounds mostly like you have an issue with vacuum leaks, and when the idle is jumping from 1000 to 1500, the most likely culprit would be a bad intake or the gaskets for the intake. The extra heat is coming from the fact that leaky intakes are sucking in extra air through the leaks themselves. This causes the car to idle lean (meaning too much air, not enough gas) which in turn makes the car run hotter. You might also want to check any vacuum lines the car might have. As for the spurting power steering fluid, that may be a different issue altogether and the cv joints are part of the car's driveline.
