Why my Mercury Cougar wont start?

- Chosen by Voters This sounds like your alternator is not charging and your battery is very low from no charge, That would explain the stall when the cables were disconnected! If you get it started check the voltage at the battery (13.8V to 14.7V) to confirm if the vehicle is charging. ADDED: The reason your accessories are haywire is because the GEM (generic control module) is not receiving the proper operating voltage and causing a malfunction with the relay drivers. Strange noise when I start my car, and turn the steering wheel to make a turn, what can it be?

- Chosen by Voters Well without proper diagnostics its just best guess, but it sounds like your power steering pump and/or steering gear rack are having problems. Price? depends on location and who you take it to to have it fixed. Most independant shops are cheaper than dealerships but they may still have get the parts at a dealer. Take it in and have it checked out at a local trusted and certified shop. They will be able to tell you in much more detail what the problem is. What is the problem with my 1988 Honda Accord?

- Chosen by Voters When the Cv joints were replaced the drive shafts were removed from the gear box and taken to the bench for new parts to be fitted. When replacing the drive shaft into the gearbox care must be taken to ensure that the snap ring engages in the differential splines. In your case this has not been done and the drive shaft has worked it's way out of the differential (gearbox). Check the end of the drive shaft that goes into the gear box, you should see a wire ring in a groove about 1 mm dia. Get the haynes manual for the car and read how to refit the drive shafts. Power steering on 1999 Windstar?

Precursor to pump failure. When it gets warm parts expand and contract causing fluid to bypass internally reducing the efficiency of the pump. A 10 year old pump is prone to failure. Nature of the beast sorry to say. 2 years ago 1 person rated this as good so true

1984 cadillac eldorado biarritz?

- Chosen by Voters There was nothing unusual about that system unless it is or was a diesel car. The diesels had what they called a hydroboost power brake system that used the power steering pump for the power brakes. The standard brake boosters are around a 10 inch drum looking thing on the fire wall. The hydro boost units are almost the same size as the master cylinder and have 3 hoses attached. At this age its common for the hydro boosts to leak. As for regular brakes say in a HT4100 equipped car, the most common place for a leak is the front shaft of the pump behind the pulley. Occasionally they will also leak where the reservoir joins up with the main body of the pump but this is not that common. The high pressure hose itself can leak, these are easily replaceable. The output shaft of the steering box itself can leak. The return line can leak. Often times the return line is a length of hose from the steering box to a metal loop of tubing under the radiator (you can see it if you look under the car ) then another length of hose to the pump. This was used for cooling. Since its under the car like that it may be possible that if you ran up a curb to damage it. 5 months ago 100% 1 Vote

Advice regards a fault with my nissan tino auto engine cuts out when steering is on hard lock in P D R L . ?

sounds like the idle up valve mate, check to see the vacum pipes aren't split, the valve will be on the pas pump or on a pipe near to it, it sense's pressure in the line then ups your idle speed accordingly, 5 years ago thought it might be a sensor myself. this answer suggests a split in the vacum pipe or a sensor on the pas pump. sounds spot on to me . great info

Vectra – mechanic advice?

- Chosen by Voters Appreciate your problem but even if you get the answers you seek it will make no difference. When the fault is not fixed by replacement parts demand that the old ones are refitted, no charge for useless work levied and use another garage next time. 2 years ago 100% 1 Vote

New car…confused!!!!!!!!!!?

- Chosen by Voters New verna is the freshest and optra is older. Vento is a booted POLO (like swift dzire). Verna's looks may attract some but not great, Vento will be expensive to maintain and resale value will be far low and finally Optra, I think nothing to talk about it. Why you don't consider Honda City (if your budget allows) and SX4?.In the diesel segment SX4 will be the right pick as it is priced very reasonably, spacious, cheap to maintain, fuel efficient, very good ground clearance (very important for our Indian roads), comfortable high seating and you can expect good resale value as it is a Maruti, 7 months ago 67% 2 Votes

Buying a civic EG Hatch. What Do You Think?

- Chosen by Voters i'd take it for not more than $500. =P in fact, i might ask for what the junk shop would take it for. all the work you need to do with the car would cost you about 8 grand just to get it back to simple, working condition. 3 years ago 100% 1 Vote
